Selling on Allegro: a guide to the Polish marketplace

Bettershop team · 26 October 2026 · 6 min read

In short
  • Allegro is the most used marketplace in Poland and also operates in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
  • Language, local-currency pricing, fast delivery and customer service in Polish make the difference.
  • Allegro Ads works in a similar way to Amazon Sponsored Products.
  • Storing stock abroad can have tax consequences: assess it with your adviser.

Anyone selling in Europe almost always thinks of Amazon first. In Poland, though, the leading marketplace is Allegro, and ignoring it means missing one of the most dynamic e-commerce markets on the continent. Here’s how Allegro works for a foreign seller, what you need to get started and the mistakes worth avoiding.

Why Allegro matters

Allegro was founded in Poland in the late 1990s and today is the most used online shopping platform in the country. For many Polish consumers it’s the starting point for every purchase, much as Amazon is in the UK or Germany. It has its own loyalty programme, Allegro Smart!, which gives members free delivery and encourages repeat purchases.

In recent years the group has expanded beyond Poland. Allegro now also operates in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and through the acquisition of the Mall group it’s present in other Central and Eastern European countries. The countries covered change over time, so check them when you open your account.

For a Western European brand this means something concrete: with a single account you can reach a region with tens of millions of consumers, where competition from Western brands is often lower than on Amazon.

How Allegro works for a foreign seller

Allegro accepts sellers from other European Union countries. You need a registered business and you open a business account. Offers can be published across several of the group’s countries from a single listing, choosing the markets you want to sell in.

There are four things to consider:

Language

Listings must be in Polish (and in the languages of any other markets you choose). Allegro offers automatic translation of offers and messages, which is a good starting point. For your main products, though, have a native speaker review the title and parameters: a badly translated technical term costs you searches and trust.

Pricing and currency

In Poland you sell in złoty, in the other countries in the local currency. Allegro can handle the conversion, but the price needs to be set for that market. Purchasing power and local competitors’ prices are different from those back home: copying your euro or sterling price list and converting it rarely works.

Logistics

Allegro shoppers are used to fast delivery and to collecting parcels from pick-up points and parcel lockers, which are very common in Poland. Shipping from your home country is possible, but longer delivery times hurt visibility and conversion. The alternatives are a warehouse in Poland, a local logistics provider or Allegro’s own fulfilment service (Allegro One Fulfillment). Storing stock in another country can have tax consequences, such as registering for VAT locally: discuss this with your tax adviser before shipping.

Customer service

Customer questions arrive in Polish and need answering quickly. Allegro measures seller quality (ratings, response times, compliance with terms of sale), and sellers who perform poorly lose visibility or risk suspension. Handle returns and complaints with the same care you would in your home market.

What you need to start: the checklist

  1. An Allegro business account with your company details.
  2. A catalogue with EANs, clean images and completed parameters (Allegro relies heavily on parameter filters).
  3. Translations of your main products checked by a native speaker.
  4. A price list designed for the local market, with competitors already analysed.
  5. A chosen logistics solution, with clear delivery times.
  6. A process for customer service and returns in the local language.
  7. A tax check with your adviser, especially if you store stock abroad.

If you don’t want to handle everything in-house, you can sell through a company that buys the goods and resells them on the marketplace in its own name. This is the Merchant of Record model, which takes much of the operational and tax burden off the brand.

Allegro Ads and promotions

As on Amazon, visibility on Allegro can also be bought with advertising. Allegro Ads offers cost-per-click ads in search results and category pages, as well as brand formats. The logic will be familiar to anyone who knows Sponsored Products: keywords, bids, budgets, keeping cost in check against sales.

Some advice from the projects we run:

  • start with products that have the most reviews and competitive prices, because advertising amplifies what already converts;
  • use the Polish keywords people actually search for, not a literal translation of your own terms;
  • run campaigns alongside the platform’s promotions (discounts, coupons, seasonal events);
  • measure ad cost against total sales, not just sales attributed to ads.

Product listings: what’s different from Amazon

On Allegro parameters matter enormously. Shoppers often use the side filters (size, material, capacity, compatibility), and a product with incomplete parameters simply doesn’t appear. Before you even work on the title, fill in every field available for the category.

The title has limited space and must contain the words Polish shoppers actually use. The description can be rich, alternating images and text. Images must be clear and follow the platform’s rules for the main photo. Reviews and seller rating weigh on the shopper’s choice, because several sellers often offer the same product.

Typical mistakes

  • Translating listings with machine translation and never reading them back.
  • Using the same prices as at home without looking at local competition.
  • Shipping from your home country with long delivery times and expecting the same sales as local sellers.
  • Replying to customers late, or in English.
  • Opening several of the group’s markets at once instead of consolidating Poland first.
  • Underestimating the tax side of logistics abroad.

How to tell whether Allegro is right for you

Start with a simple check: search Allegro for your products and your competitors’. See how many sellers there are, at what price, with how many reviews and what delivery times. If you find categories with demand but few strong brands, or products from your country sold only by resellers, there’s room. Start with a selection of 10 or 20 products, get logistics and customer service right, then expand. Frequently asked questions

Can a foreign company sell on Allegro?

Yes, Allegro accepts sellers registered in other European Union countries with a business account. You need listings in the local language, proper customer service and a logistics solution with competitive delivery times. Alternatively, you can go through a Merchant of Record that sells in its own name.

Do listings have to be in Polish?

Yes, Allegro shoppers expect listings and customer service in their own language. The platform offers automatic translation, which is useful to get started, but have a native speaker review your main products. The right Polish keywords often aren't the literal translation.

Which countries is Allegro active in?

As well as Poland, Allegro operates in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and through the Mall group in other Central and Eastern European countries. Coverage has grown in recent years and may change again, so check the official website before you start.
